TOR (The Onion Routing) is a network which allows users to browse the internet anonymously and securely. This Page gives instructions on how to set up a TOR router for bitmessage.

Windows

These instructions are for AdvOR, which is one of the most advanced TOR clients.

Obtaining a tor client

The client can be downloaded from sourceforge: Download.

Download and extract the zip file to any location and launch the exe inside it. The TOR client is fully portable and can be put on a USB flash drive with bitmessage.

Configuring the client

This is optional. On the top left corner of the client, click on "Proxy". You can obtain and change the listening Port and address for your router if you wish. In this guide the Port 9050 on address 127.0.0.1 is used.

On the left side menu, click on "System" and enable "Connect Automatically" and "Minimize at startup". This way the client cannot easily be spotted by others and works silently.
